Hi

I have a cell prepaid line which i use on the side. Last week i bought R50 airtime and got the sms/data/mins etc promotion so i started using the line. I'm using a nokia phone and have the whatsapp application installed so it runs in the background using small amounts of data. After Sunday midnight whatsapp started using my airtime as i had no data bundle left. I stopped using the line after the data expired but i checked on the data logs that from midnight up until now about 164kB of data were used and it took almost R1 of airtime?!! Thats more than R6/MB, i believe their out of bundle rates are much lower than this. It is not the first time this has happened because i once left the phone with that application running in the background for week without me using it and it used about R6 for very litte amounts of data.

My question is, does Cell C withhold some airtime if you are using data without a data bundle? Has anyone else experienced this? It doesn't make sense really.

SarelSeemonster: That only applies to the 20Gb/60Gb bundles. It doesn't sound like random_user is on any data plan.
random_user: It looks like no-bundle data charges are R2/meg. My guess is they charge in 512Kb increments (thus the R1 charge).

Good day random_user

As Glipsie has said, and that is the case.
the 39c / OOB only apply for data packages.
what i pick up is that you are on a normal Cell C voice line.

There are option if want to keep using that line for data.
The recharge promotion, just keep topping up with min R50 - to max R100 a week, to receive Data, sms and minutes.
Or the All-in-one voucher :
Starts:
R45
R89
R199

great value for money.

I tried, but couldn't find any information on the out-of-bundle rate or the billing increments on the Cell-C website.

thanx for the responses thus far.

sorry for not being clear earlier, it is indeed a normal voice line. I don't really use the line for data as i have other means and i am aware of all the promotions but my problem is with the charging structure. From my experience it is clearly not R2/meg, i have had just over R1 taken for less than 150kB of data. How can Cell C explain that?
