Lets assume you bought the 5gig package on contact at R299/month.You subsequently run out of data on lets say the 25th of that month. You then decide to buy an additional 1gig of data at the top up bundle price of R250.You have effectively spent R549/6gig of data for that month. Is this right?

This means that you have spent 9c/mb of data for that month. Now, how does this scenario compare to other ISP's?
Shoudn't CellC give us a similar breakdown as the one stated above ,so you know what top up data will cost you if you combine it with your contract data?
In this way you'll know eactly how much data to budget for, should you require to top up.

This is where Cell C's pricing falls apart... Rather buy 1.2Gb from Vodacom when your 5Gb runs out as it is slightly less expensive per Gb. If you're going to need more than 1Gb it is still cheaper to buy from Vodaom, as 2.3 Gb will cost you R389 compared to Cell C's r400 for 2Gb.

I see what you mean.I'm sure CellC wants people to go for the 5gig promo and hope that you wont feel it necessary to top up.

You should look little bit from the CellC perspective. Maybe they intend to limit your hungry data usage. I think they understand that 900MHz band has limited capacity, so they want at this stage to get awareness, before they are ready to use 2100MHz band.

if you think you going to run out, it may be worth buying a second modem, even one of the 2gb jolls

That's not the way business works. Rather, they're hoping that you will run out very quickly (at their high speeds) and then you're forced to top-up at their ridiculous rates so that they can make some real money. With a financial accumen rivaling Trevor Manuel's, they'll soon have as much success in getting everyone aboard their ship as Prophet Noah had. Only they didn't use Trevor Manuel or Prophet Noah, they used Trevor Noah.

Lol.Blowing your cap quickly and then blaming the high speed is irresponsible and stupid.Indeed, the top up prices are not the best out there, but if you work your initial allocation properly ,the data packages presented are still the best gig for your buck.

Why top up with 1 GB for R250.00 every month when you can can get the 2GB promo bundle without modem for an effective R80.00 per month?

Sorry mate, their collective financial acumen SUCKS. My 5Gb for the October was finished on the 23rd, so I bought a 1.2Gb Vodacom bundle. This month the same is going to happen. You don't need financial acumen for this, just first grade mathematics. Trevor, like Pieter the Rugby Coach IS a comedian, and neither knows squat about what they're supposed to be doing. At least Vodacom's meerkat was cute.

Finally, the Prophet Noah's ship wasn't afloat for a long time before it stranded and everyone left the ship... Bad omen?

Or even better- get 2x 5gig packages. That works out to 10gigs for R598 at 5.98c/mb.You could effectively use 320mb/per day and have some change left over at the end of the month.

I would rather say that their target is responsible customer who knows what his/her monthly usages is and can make the right decision in advance. Fools are everywere, they come and go...

Or even EVEN better, buy the second 5GB bundle without modem for R1999.00 (divide by 12)

That's 10GB a month for less than R500.00 per month. Try 10GB a month with Vodacom or MTN or even 8ta. You'll need to sell your car to pay for it.

FORGET TOPPING UP!!!

@Axis.Of course. What do they give you-just the sim or what?
Does it work on contract?

Agreed :)

That would not be very profitable. I'm sure they're hoping you run out and buy some prepaid gigs. Who do you think will make them more money? The user using just 5Gb pm, or the user needing more?

Yes just the sim. I'm sure you can get it on contract. They'd be fools if they didn't make it available on contract.
I don't know why the guys are worried about the top up prices.

You could even take out 2x5gig contracts and sell the one dongle for about R600.This will bring your monthly costs on average to around R550/month for 10gig.At this rate it would be good to compare it to capped/unshaped ADSL packages.

Very simple:
It is available on contract, at a higher rate than pre-paid.
People who have bought prepaid before contracts were available depend on top-up bundles.

Anton, It's VERY simple. Do NOT buy top up bundles. Get another 2GB or 5GB contract!!! Much MUCH cheaper!!!

It would be simple if I knew I was going to use that much data. It would however be rare that I went over 5Gb per month, generally not more than one month in three or four on average.
