I'm on Cell C prepaid SUPACHARGE.

I recharge R300 roughly every 45 days.
For this I get:
R300 Airtime
700MB Data (for 30 days)

However, when 30 days has passed and my data expires, or when I've depleted my 700MB, my data usage starts running OOB, draining my remaining airtime.

This has happened a few times now and it's costing me a lot of money, yesterday I ran out of data and I still had R200+ airtime on my phone, this was depleted overnight due to OOB usage.

Here is what I need/want phrased in various ways:
- I want my data service to stop when I have no bundles.
- I need my airtime to be isolated from my data bundles and NOT be available for data usage.
- I would rather have NO data than pay OOB rates.

I have called Cell C about this issue, the lady on the other side simply did not understand what I meant, she kept on instructing me to disable background data on my phone. I eventually gave up.

Does anyone here know how to get Cell C to prevent my airtime from being utilized for data?
This is not something that can be resolved with phone settings as my phone has no idea what my data balances are.

Thank you in advance!

See if buying a 3GB 365-day data bundle works for you.

There are other options as well:

If I buy a 365 day bundle, and I then recharge with R300 and receive a free 700MB's, which bundle will be the one being used for the next 30 days?

Hi Matthysdt

Thank you for posting to us.

Our system sends out notifications once you are close to depleting your data, and when you have depleted your data. The only time you would not get a notification is when you have depleted a daily data bundle, or when you have depleted your recharge data.

We will certainly raise your suggestion with management, as we would need to see if they would be able to lock accounts from accessing airtime once data has been depleted.

If you could kindly forward this suggestion to [email protected] & include your Cell C number.

Hi there,

This is not something we can do on our side. You need to switch off mobile data on your phone, that way your phone will not use the internet. The Consultant was right by saying that your airtime was consumed by applications. Remember, they are running in the background.

It is best you disable mobile data.

Hi there,

The active bundle will deplete first.

This is how another network elsewhere does its. I am sure you guys at Cell C can provide the same service. It can be frustrating to have unplanned disappearance of airtime:
WHAT Network X DOES NOT NECESSARILY WANT YOU TO KNOW:
If your airtime amazingly disappears on Network X from your smart phone, without using it on your SMART phones (or other phones), SIMPLY follow the steps below:
1. Dial *143#
2. Select OPTION 3 (Account Services)
3. Selelect OPTION 3 (Out of bundle browsing).
4. Select OPTION 2 (Do not allow"
5. Finally select OPTION 1 that reads "Yes".
It just means your PHONE will not use airtime for data and your airtime will NEVER disappear.

Cell C does not have this service and must do so to avoid the impression created that they want to benefit financially from the absence of the service.
