Cell C pulls plug on fixed LTE, leaving ISPs, consumers in the lurch

Ah crap. There goes my Axxess 100gb internet for R530 :crying: and I have no Telkom LTE in my area.

Telkom's fixed LTE packages' pricing is also not feasible for me. Why bother with nighttime data?
 
Journalists just assume that Afrihost is selling the fixed lte through Internet Solutions.

They aren't. Afrihost is running it on their own network after the handover from Cellc.

What this means for Afrihost Fixed lte well not sure. The rep did say there is no word yet and continues as normal for now but I'm pretty sure if they are killing it on IS the others will follow.
 
TechCentral understands that Cell C will continue to offer fixed-LTE packages to consumers itself. It sells a 100GB plan for R1 007.77/month and a 200GB plan for R1 512.15/month, significantly above the prices offered through the wholesale channel.
 
Been using Cell C via WebAfrica since January. That sim got some very poor performance but stuck with them as I would rather the devil I know. Guess I'll be moving to WebAfrica's Telkom offering.

The Telkom bit makes me nervous, hope there's no issues

Besides the price, the problem with Cell C direct is that all LTE deals require a contract to be taken out. So no month to month options like the ISP's or their agents are clueless as to that option being available.
 
Cell C must just hold on for 6 more weeks. Then my contract expires.
 
I moved from Ignite IS to MWEB last month not because I wanted rather because my services moved. I definitely don't want to use Telkom as I especially moved away from them. I also don't have Fibre in my area and ADSL is not an option.

MWEB can't provide any info at the moment. I honestly don't know what to do.

I'm basically screwed.
 
I just spoke to MWEB, apparently they are going to ask all Cell-C customers to sign a 24 month contract and move over to Telkom LTE.

I have just cancelled all my business with Mweb and will commence the move to Afrihost shortly. Basically you have to give Mweb 30 days notice which means if you don't cancel this month you might end up with no connectivity come the end of October and still have a bill with Mweb.

Frankly this was the last straw for me and Mweb's inflexibility and bad customer support has now cost them a long time customer.

Fortunately I have Telkom coverage in my area as well.

I'm not down for that. Will also look elsewhere. Any suggestions for fixed LTE or wireless internet? I don't like the idea to go with Telkom again.
 
Well that is why I am going through Afrihost ... hence I don't have to deal with Telkom directly. From my initial investigations, it is either CellC or Telkom ... I can't really find anymore alternatives.
 
Is Cell-C just stopping the sale of new fixed-rate sign-ups, and continuing with the current users, or closing it down wholesale?

Closing it down within the year. You can only go direct now and at a premium rate.
 
Ouch!!

Was getting ready to get their Fixed-LTE service from Afrihost - and premium rates are not on. Guess that leaves Telkom ... SIGH ...
