Cell C RICA concerns, more

I bought my Cell C 5 GB Black speed stick (prepaid) at the end of April 2011. It gave me a bit of trouble in the beginning, but this month it's been all right so far.

Anyway, why I'm posting is because I have a few concerns about RICA and so on. When I purchased this product, am I correct in assuming that I was registered for RICA at the same time? I had to take my ID and proof of address with me.

Another query: I know that at least with MTN you have to make a phone call every 3 months (90 days) at least to stay on the network. What is Cell C's rule regarding this, and would I have to take the sim card out of the modem to make a call with it to stay on the network? Or will using the data count?

It's just that July 1st is coming, and I know that's the cut-off date for RICA registration. I recall getting an SMS on that sim when my first month was activated, telling me I had been registered - and the manual says that one should be registered when they sign up.

Just a little uptight after reading about it in the Cape Argus tonight.

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS. After the 12 month period of actually using the modem has expired, what happens? Do you hand the modem in? I don't recall reading anything about this. I doubt they'd let you keep it...

You have to RICA for it to work so you must be RICA'd on it.
The 5gb*12 without modem is 1999 as opposed to with the modem being 2999 so you've bought the modem for R1000 effectively.

You don't have to take the sim out of the modem. Using the data lets Cell C know that you're an active user.

I've been using my modem for 7 months now and I've never taken the sim out of the modem.

Good day

that is correct.
when you buy your package pre / post paid, you have to Rica is on the spot, to activate the service.
As Madhawk said just by using it for data is fine don't have to swap it around.

Thanks to all of you for your replies.

I was reading in the Cape Argus tonight, and found out that there are numbers you can dial to check whether your simcards have been registered - all of mine are registered so that's fine. My parents actually registered a long time ago - or thought they had. But after dialing the number, it was found that they weren't RICA'd! So they have to do it again! Sometimes it pays to wait...

Thanks for addressing my other concerns. So I don't have to take the simcard out, and make a call to stay on the network and I can keep the modem (?). That's great!
