Well here’s my Cell C saga that has been ongoing for the past 3 months. I seriously hope that by posting this story on this forum it at least for once gets the attention it deserves and I would appreciate it if this post was forwarded to Jose de Santos so that it would highlight what is happening. If some sort of positive action take place maybe I’ll change my perception towards Cell C.
In May 2014 I phone the Cell C customer service centre and requested that my BIS be deactivated and a 1gig data bundle be activated on my account. The reason being the new OOB data tariffs that were implemented. At the end of June I was billed R2300 for data charges. I had obviously not budgeted for this amount and the Cell C payment was returned. I lodged a complaint on the HelloPeter website. I was contacted and advised that an investigation would be done. The person handling this query was Maropeng Motana. Motana phone me back and advised that he had listened to the call and that I was correct and that a credit will be processed on my account. During the investigation period my Cell C services were suspended due to non payment.
The following transpired due to the overcharges on my account. A missed payment to Multichoice and a missed payment to Outsurance. I advised Motana that due to Cell C’s billing / technical error I now have missed payments and this would affect my credit profile. He advised that there was absolutely nothing he could do. He would however, as a goodwill gesture, waver my one month’s subscription. I agreed and the call was closed.
July 2014. I was billed R2300 again because the data bundle did not reflect on my account. As before a returned payment due to the overcharges. Missed payments to Multichoice and Outsurance. 2 months of bad credit profile due to Cellc C’s billing / technical error. I logged another query to Hellopeter. And as before my services were suspended. I spoke to Motana again, and he said that he will need to investigate again. He called me back a few times to confirm the Exact dates I had originally phoned in. He made me second guess myself so many times. I had a think back and confirmed the dates as I did before and I was in the right I should have not been charged for the data because I had requested a data bundle to be loaded.
I asked Motana now what is going to happen? I have missed payments and a credit record that shows Im a bad payer. Who is going to rectify all of this. He advised that he will fix all this with the credit bureau. I must forward my bank statement to show the missed payments. Why couldn't Motana have done this the month before when I asked him to? I wasn’t happy with the bank statement issue as I feel its an invasion of my privacy. It’s not my fault that Cell C billed me incorrectly but now I have to do the damage control to fix all this. I asked Motana on many occasions for his managers details because I was not satisfied with the service he was providing me. He refused to give it to me. I also spoke to a Richard Pillay in the KZN area. He in turn spoke to Motana and the same message was relayed back to me.
Hesitantly I forwarded my bank statement to Richard. He in turn phoned me back and said that they cannot accept the bank statement because the were items blacked off. I had done that due to privacy. I do not see why I should enclose my entire bank statement to complete strangers to have a look at. I am not comfortable with that. The total that I have to be reimbursed from Cell C, just due to missed payments is R828. That is just missed payments. Due to all this, I have not been insured for 2 months now. My Multichoice account has been switched to manual payment because of 2 months missed debit orders. My perfect payment record with CellC, Multichoice and Outsurance has been tarnished. I have been dealing with all these companies for way more than 8 years, CellC for over 2 years.
This may bean nothing to Cell C but it means a lot to me. These actions or lack there off by CellC has had a serious ripple effect towards my affordability to most things. My CellC bill being one of them.
Is it my fault that Cell C has billed me incorrectly?
Has Motana phoned the relative creditors and credit bureau as promised?
Has any action been taken?
Motana being a representative of Cell C has given me this impression of the company. There is no accountability at all. I am being bombarded by CellC with no rights what so ever. Who is inconvenienced should I have to cancel this contract because of a certain few individuals?
Is that fair practice Cell C?
