Save yourself the pain. Don't roam. Just go pre-paid in the country you are visiting.

Yeah, agree with morkhans - NEVER EVER EVER do data roaming. Just buy a new sim card in that country! Even the Cell C CEO himself said, and I quote, that 'roaming is a bitch' (http://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/15983-R140000-Bill-Roaming-bitch.html)

The Cell C CEO advised international travelers to rather just purchase a connection from a local operator which will save the subscriber from the potential risk of a very high roaming bill.

EDIT: btw this guy is a legend :D makes me feel pretty good about the future of Cell C...

buying a prepaid card is not suitable as...we travel a lot
and the company pays the data bill....

Well your company is going to be paying A LOT of money for your roaming then... Think tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of Rand... And it will more or less be the same on all the networks - because the international operators are the ones sending the bill...

EDIT: On these new packages I'm pretty sure you won't be able to roam at all unless you load them with airtime too.

Thing is currently we are on Vodcom....and basically what we want to know is how does the international data roaming rates compare to them.

Yes i did check that link on your site, but it doest show data rates
if I check for the UK it doesn't show the data rate.

It'll probably be the same as the GPRS rate on that table?

Edit: If you roam a lot in countries with Vodafone networks, then VC will probably be slightly cheaper... But you'll be paying a whack more for your local data!

I've heard that Canada is the most expensive - something like R135 000 per GB.

I always buy local SIM cards, not getting myself into deep trouble when my Adobe CS decides to update, or anything like that.

Nah, we travel frequently to Africa & asia,
vodafones 'world plan' does not cover a lot of countries there so that's not a factor here.

roaming charges are freaking expensive, rather get yourself a data sim at they other side where you visiting, you don't want to do roaming and come back and receive over R60 grand bill or R200 k bill at the end of the month....

If you want roaming then do it but make sure you request a LIMIT like R10 k or so on your sim card, not sure if CELL C does this but I know MTN and VODACOM you can request a call limit amount not sure if it is applicable to contract users.
