Cell C seeks more network access from MTN

Cell C Pty Ltd. is in advanced talks with MTN Group Ltd. to gain more access to its network as South Africa’s third-biggest mobile-phone company strives to overcome mounting losses and add products such as financial services.

An extended roaming deal could be concluded within the next month, Chief Executive Officer Douglas Craigie Stevenson said in an interview. Cell C already has access to MTN’s network in major cities such as Johannesburg and Cape Town.

So does this mean if there's an MTN tower around I can roam on it?

We are not a tower-owning company, our profits have to come from the services that we are able to offer customers

If you're too incompetent to make a profit from moving voice/data traffic over a network, you're too incompetent to make money from services. Telkom Mobile started well after Cell C and was able to turn a profit, so all that whining about how there's only room for Vodacom and MTN just doesn't cut it.

See "Cell C Black" as a portent for how all their service aspirations will end.

I think they may be sufferers of "Mark Barnes Syndrome"; when you can't execute well enough to make your core business succeed, you instead channel a stream of "big potential ideas" to distract investors.

Very sad, please donate.

Why can't Government (tax payers) "bail out" Cell C instead of all the useless SOE's. With something like a cheap loan. Would actually be good for the economy.
