I am aware of cell breathing. I was referring to the network making the cell smaller on purpose so as to cover less people to lessen congestion on the tower.

I am aware of cell breathing. I was referring to the network making the cell smaller on purpose so as to cover less people to lessen congestion on the tower.
And I am saying that it is the same. It is changing dynamically (depends on number of users), but dynamics of this behaiour is controlled by set of parameters.

The way I understand it is so:
1. Cell C decides a particular cell must cover 1km....and sets power to the tower so that the maximum range is 1km.
2. The Cell is now 1km....but the more users sign onto the 3G tower, the cell shrinks...and as users sign off...it expands (cell breathing) from the pre-determined 1km set range from Cell C or any other operator for that matter.
Am I not understanding it correctly?

Correct, except that maximum distance is not a parameter, but a maximum power. It is decided based on different criteria, by example meassured interference. Any user with directional antenna will extend this range.

Ok, so I'm testing out the beta10 version of mdma and....
I try 2100mhz, works, and is "slower" much as speeds are in an E220
I try 900mhz and its quicker, much like me E1820 (when it works)
So now I'm asking myself, if many of our speed issues are related to modems getting 'confused' by frequencies and cell tower breathing and allsorts of other kuk, why dont the networks just license mdma from gings?

G'day, I purchased a Cell C sim the other day, coz their lower end 3g data fits my pocket. I can remember 2 years back when I had a Cell C sim, I cud only pick up edge due to my mecer 3g dongle only being umts 2100.. I see that I am now picking up hspa with Cell C on the same dongle ( Allens Nek area ) The speed is fast and the pages change much quicker than on my ZTE 3765Z which has both specs 900/2100!!
