Cell C users to get 4G roaming on MTN network

So Cell C will have access to MTN, Vodacom & Cell C Base Stations.

That would mean Cell C will theoretically offer the best coverage in country.

so how many months or weeks before we can test it

Hmm.. Does Cell C offer anything as cheap as Telkom offers on Prepaid?

Not really. They got some long term data bundles for a 1 year or so - but most of their bundles cost the same as Vodacom.

The agreement will see MTN provide 3G and 4G services to Cell C in areas where Cell C has chosen to purchase coverage, rather than build its own network.
It will be implemented selectively and - gradually - I guess. It will at least work better than with Vodacom that do not have seamless handover.

If you take the Cell C 66c/min prepaid voice and add the R599/10GB prepaid data option (valid for 365 days), you have Telkom Mobile beat on most of their offerings. Looking to move to CellC now from Telkom's SimSonke.

so this applies to the 100GB and 200GB 1 year bundles?

There is no specifics as yet but given how MTN allows general Telkom data bundles (not Telkom-only data) to work on their network, I would assume yes.

Noticed the roaming this weekend, was out Pretoria East side on one of the plots, and the phone switched to MTN in the corner and showed that I was roaming.

However, the weird part is it does not operate like Vodacom. I could select Vodacom roaming whenever I wanted to but when I select MTN it tells me that the sim card is not allowed on the network.

Any Gurus here that can enlighten us to why this would happen ?

With Vodacom it was not assisted (blind) roaming, you could lockup to Vodacom with full signal, but no feed if Cell C decided not to do it.

With MTN Cell C has a differnet agreement where handover to MTN and back is controlled by Cell C, as MTN tower is cooperative with Cell C control center.

So I'm in an area with no cellc C 4g coverage but get this when trying to manually search.

Try to use a new prepaid SIM or SIMswap. "Forbidden" flag is programmed on the SIM.
Some packages were selling with package-specific SIMs. I had a R999 GIGa-100 package which was non-roaming. I tried to load a roaming bundle, it didn't work on that SIM and help centre couldn't unblock roaming on that SIM.

I read that it would take 2 months to implement.

Sitting here roaming on Vodacom nearly 10 weeks after that was announced.

MTN network still 'forbidden'

Any news on this move of Cell C Roaming from Vodacom to MTN?
