Cell C won't work on iPad?

The specs that I have seen for the E585 say that it doesn't support UMTS 900MHz (http://www.modem3g.com/e585-p-56.html?gclid=CILblfDLgaUCFZVc2godLT-HPQ)

Please let us know once you have tested it with a Cell C 3G SIM.

Agreed, will have to try. Might try it this weekend. Gonna get on in EL and will test.

I will say this, the link you gave doesnt seem to have as much comprehensive info as the link I found, that makes me wonder if they are just being slack on the 3g site. The only way we can know for sure is by finding it on the actual Huawei site or something official.

Yes, unless they have different versions for different ISP's, which does seem to happen sometimes.

I have also sent a query to a vendor in the UK selling the Three E585 (asked him to look on the box / included specs).

At the moment I am using a T-Mobile D100T, which has the flexibility of using an appropriate dongle (eg E1820), but it is not as convenient and is not battery driven as the E585 is.

Its quite strange. I put the 3 network simcard that came with it, into the router. It started searching for singals. I looked a few seconds later and it connected with roaming to the Cell C network and the 3G sign was showing :) stayed that way for a few minutes until I took it into my computer room and it swtiched to roaming on the Vodacom network, perhaps the signal was stronger. So, thats def something encouraging.

I contacted the eBay vendor about the E585, he contacted his supplier who confirmed that the device does work with 900MHz UMTS.

It's no guarantee, some of these guys don't know what they are talking about, but it is encouraging. I think that I will take a chance and order.

Yes! Im stoked. Gonna go get a couple 5gig sims this weekend. Neotel can go to hell. im done with them. Best thing is now I can share the connection between the ipad and the laptop. Cell C you beauty!

Well very good news. I have tested the setup with the modem and iPad and everything is working perfectly. Getting 5mbit speeds here in EL and keen to come test it in jhb ngot two 5gig sim only packs. In the words of Hanibal Smith....."I love it when a plan comes together!" Cell C ftw. Now pity we can't add extra bundles to our sims.

@Style : So have you tested the E585 with Cell C 3G yet ?

Yep! Replying using it right now :) getting speeds of around 5.8mb down and 3mb up. Working perfectly. 1 button to set up eveyrthing, great interface and easy to set up in the admin page. Loving it, great purchase! and you can connect up to 5 different users at a time...Ipad, laptop, pc, ps3 etc.

Does the E585 take a micro sim? or normal?

I can confirm unlocked 3 mifi e585 works great on cellc tested last night ? no issues. Have a few spare PM me?

Why does it say on the Cell C network that you can get 21mb (60gig bundle) download speeds ....are there any Mi-fi devices capable of that? or only the 7.2 as current ?

Yes and the Cell C 3G network actually operates at 21mbps, so that's the theoretical max speed. However it usually goes at about 3-5mbps. Occasionally up to 10. It's got the potential for improvement.

Synaesthesia - on what modem are you getting those speeds?
the official cell c usb stick or one of the mifi devices?
