Cell Extender

It's a repeater. It picks up the signal outside and beams it inside the house.

Will it work for my 8ta signal too?

*duck*

So the guy said it would only boost Vodacom frequency .... how would it know the difference as don't a few operators run on the same frequency?

I can confirm that the unit Vodacom generally installs if you have become enough of a pain in the neck for them to justify it, ONLY works on Vodacom. Mine actually degrades the signal if I try using it with Cell C or MTN.

In addition, some repeaters work on GSM voice only, other can do with data too. It doesn't just boost frequency. It works by fully decoding signal before coding it again and transfering to the other party. It means that it must be capable of decoding GPRS/EDGE/HSPA(+).

I had one installed bout 3 weeks ago. There is some improvement but not significant.

It impacts my backup Cell C WHOOOOSH and does nothing for Vodacom 3G, it only boosts the GRPS signal for voice. I still get sms hours after it being sent and drop call every now and again.

The one they installed looks similar to this:

With a white receiver/repeater installed in one room.

It is because It increases background noise. Including Vodacom 3G users (if repeater doesn't support 3G/HSPA(+)).

The unit I saw supports GSM voice and GPRS, but no EDGE.

I became enough of a pain to get IT.

Awaiting installation though - and hoping it doesn't kill my 8ta signal :/
