nice article. with future reports like that, i'm sure we will eventually see the following legislation:

1. maximum radiation requirements on cellphones;
2. smoking-style anti passive-radiation proximity laws and anti-cellphone areas
3. greater education in schools around the risks of abuse

these will probably be precipitated by the first cases of users suing manufacturers because of a lack of education around the risks attached to their products.

1. There are maximum radiation requirements on cellphones, in ZA this is regulated by ICASA.
2. Electromagnetic radiation does not work like that.
3. Abuse of cellphones???

Can somebody please explain to me how you measure EM radiation in Watt per kilogram like they do in that report? (W/kg)

The article as posted on MyBB is a piece of crap written by someone who doesn't know the first thing about EM. The terms and measurements they use sound impressive and legit, but makes absolutely no sense if you actually understand something about electromagnetism.

I'm -not- saying EM radiation isn't dangerous, I'm just saying if you believe this particular article that it is a good sign that you are a nutjob in case you ever wondered.

I know this is an old post but believe this is the best place to ask some questions surrounding the cell towers as well.

I live right opposite a cell tower and growing worried about the effects it might have. Currently we have 3 network operators on the tower and 8ta on its way. My questions are... Is there a way i can get hold of someone that can assess whether the combined radiation being pumped out of this tower has a negative effect? Is there a limit to what the combined radiation level should be according to some environmental legislation? Does government have a department i can contact with my concern. What is the procedure these networks have to follow to comply with environmental impact?

In order to comply with NEMA the provincial environmental affairs needs to have the masts as a listed activity. Currently, I believe anything lower than 15m does not require an impact assessment.

The tower opposite is a about 30 meters. Do i get hold of NEMA for an impact assessment or will this be done by 8ta who is applying to use tower?
