Hi all.

Was just wondering where I would go to have a cell phone screen replaced? Would sending it in to Vodacom or MTN be the best? Or would a cell phone shop be better?

My friend has a Sony Ericsson W950i that has a cracked screen. It's a touch screen so I imagine replacing it would be quite tricky.

Any feedback will be appreciated :)

If its on contract send it to where you got it from , and beware of some cellphone shops - they will rip you off

Rather take it to MTN or Vodacare. They will quote you on a new screen. Remember, if the phone was not bought from a VSP (Vodashop etc) then Vodacare will not even book it in.

Before you book it in, enquire with them if a quote rejection fee might apply.

Vodacare....offers a limited workmanship warranty on the repairs that they do.

If it is still under warranty, try your luck with the SP he got it from and see if they will repair it for free OR eBay could be an alternative.

As soon as the screen is cracked...it is classified as user damage and it will not be repaired under warranty. If it was dead pixel then sure...but not a crack. They will quote on replacing the LCD.

Best bet would be check on Ebay for the average price for the Lcd. Then just check around Cellphone shops for the cheapest price since you know how much the lcd cost and how much they charging for labour.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I noticed however that the store is located in Hong Kong. Maybe that's why it's so cheap?

I always thought if you crack or damage your touch screen, it's almost better to buy a new phone because of the cost involved in repairing?

Well if you know what you are doing then it's quite bliss
/Note 1. need to get new sony ericsson p900 screen.

From what I've seen they're quite easy to replace. It's just the acquiring of the screen that is the problem.

You want to try these guys, they have the W950 listed on their pricelist at R 798 incl. Is the screen the same as the W950i?

Of course you will still have to fit it yourself, or have someone do it.

Crud - I've just dropped my Blackberry curve and managed to crack that screen. Thanks for the link.

No problemo. They are very helpful too. I have used them a few times and been suitably impressed.

I don't see any Blackberry stuff listed, though, bwana. :(

I just noticed that too. Fortunately the LCD underneath is fine so there's no huge rush. It might even be a sign that its time to give my iPhone a shot at the big leagues.

got an omnia screen replaced about 3 months ago for R1100, fitted and all so ya look for about that range. I got some amazing quotes, like R3800 to do it.. so look around !
