Cell trace mission 'impossible'

This whole situation is so first world. Useless government cant even give enough ID documents out, and they charge you for it too

And if I was a criminal, I'd just resort to using encrypted radios lol...

In the army we had things called somfus - self-organized military f-ups. This is a gomfu - govt organized massive f-up! Quoting from the article:

1."20 million South Africans who use prepaid cellphones who do not fall into this category. The majority of these work in the informal sector and many live in far flung rural areas."
2. "Fifteen million South Africans do not have ID documents."
3. "more than 15 million South Africans do not live in a street with a name and a number"
4. "such facilities will cost hundreds of millions of rand"

Anyone who thought this law would ever be practical must be insane. Look at how the banks battled with FICA - and they are serving the banked population, who one would expect to be on average more sophisticated economically and educationally than the unbanked.

And who pays? I shudder to think of the effects on the efforts to reduce cellphone and airtime pricing.

Lol - in the states its a SNAFU - Situation Normal: All F'ed Up.

What now? When a criminal needs to use a phone, go steal one, use it, and toss it out. This will just cause more crime.

Lol !!!!!!!!!!

You hit the nail on the head.

wish the nail was the communication minister

Brainless GVT goons, take and enforce decissions without thinking and make them law, uhmm.... I forgot they cannot think! All crime bust actions taken by GVT is really a gomfu. It assists the criminal and make live for the citizen more complex unsafe and costly. List:
Cell information act
Gun control
ISP's record keeping and database
Former police departments amalgamation, Abalone unit, Scorpions etc
etc
etc

I've worked with guys who do surveillance in the police force. They've always told me the biggest problem is not whether or not they're able to listen in on conversations, but simply that professional criminals speak in code and around the topic. They say that you always know these guys are up to something, but 99% of the time they deliberately make it almost impossible to figure out what it is. Not even enough information to get a warrant that will hold up in court.

cant be enforced so make it law :)

arent these the same bafoons who imposed a speed limit on taxis???
the same bafoons who arent bothered to enforce the law, but the same bafoons who say crime is getting better?????
