Hey Guys

After calling around and asking if an 8ta sim will work in the Cellc MF190 usb modem. Most Cellc salesmen said the connection will not work, its locked to Cellc (Which is bull), the dashboard software wont work etc etc...

So being the fiddler I am, I decided to try out the Cell C R599 package with 3GB over 12 months.
With intentions of using an 8ta sim later on. (Most 8ta stores had no stock of 3G modems, typical)

Here the numbers ;)

With the Cellc sim i get Download: 2.84 Mbps , Upload: 1.51 Mbps Ping 92ms

I popped in the 8ta sim and opened the Cellc Connector desktop app, it picked up full HSDPA signal on the 65502 network (8ta). Connected perfectly!

With the 8ta sim i get Download: 5.26 Mbps ,Upload: 1.25 Mbps Ping 51ms

So to conclude the Cellc dashboard (CellC connector desktop software works with an 8ta sim)
To check your 8ta data balance, send a blank sms to 188 using cellc connector software.

Both these speeds where obtained in Tokai, and Cape Town area.

You can also manually create a dial up connection, Username/Password blank, Dial: *99#

Hope this info clears up the air! As alot of people don't have enough knowledge on this.

So i will be using 8ta sim when i chew up the 3Gb from Cellc, the 8ta 60+60GB for 12 months seems like a good deal for prepaid. Does anyone know how long this promo is running for?

I also had to call 8ta to convert the sim to a Data sim, and they confirmed data coverage. Took a few minutes, loaded the airtime and converted it to data using the *188# menu from a cellphone.

Good to hear. I suggest to get 8ta 2+1 now for more testing before deciding on large expense. Secondly keep spare Cell C just in case of downtime.

thats the master plan at the moment :) , busy testing the 8ta 2+1 deal

I changed to 8ta because my cell c prepaid was up the sales people at 8ta were not very clued up they didn't know if the cellc speed stick would work and they were out of stock of modems but i decided to take a chance and get the 60+60 deal. Then they were off line and couldn't sell me the air time went to jet and bought it there came back to 8ta and sales person did'nt know how to load and convert to data came home put the 8ta sim into my cell c phone and then the airtime wouldn't load I was about to explode by this stage phoned 8ta and somebody was very very helpfull and loaded the airtime over the phone and explained how to convert to data downloaded 8ta software put 8ta sim into cell c speed stick and bingo working like a bomb

Seems these Cell C technical support operators are useless....I was told the sim card I was issued with the modem is a micro sim and is therefore not compatible with the modem. I eventually installed the software on Windows 7 and works fine.Still battling to get it to run on XP though.Keep getting the "No Network" message. Also know of someone using the 8ta sim and it works fine.

Yip, I can also confirm that the 8ta 10gig deal sim works perfectly with MF190 connected to TP-Link MR3420.
Although the speed is less than half with 8ta than what the cellc speed was in my area.
Then again for an extra R50 I get 8gigs more ...
I also like the 8ta live refresh of my cap usage, nice.

But the main reason I left cellc was the way I was ‘raped’ when I went over my cap.
No sms or postcard warning me ... at least 8ta will stop me with a question at 10gig...

Glad to hear that the 8ta sim works on the cell c modems! I have the 21mbs modem which i bought when they had that 60gig promotion and now looking at getting that 10gig deal from 8ta. Anybody here yet used 8ta for online gaming ?
