So, I'm on CellC prepaid and I'd like to switch to the 99c for real tarrif plan that they are advertising absolutely everywhere. Apparently the procedure for this is to phone 141 and follow the instructions. I tried this and everytime I press 3 (the option for chnging your tarrif plan), I just get told: "Your selection was unsuccesful, goodbye."

I figured I'd try and phone CellC to try and speak to an operator. After unsuccesfully navigating several of CellC's automated menu systems I finally found a menu that gives me the option of speaking to an operator. This option is misleading. It would have been more accurate if the option read: "Press 9 if you don't want to naavigate this menu anymore and would preffer to listen to some of our music instead". I am unsure of whether there are actually any operators at CellC, but the two times that I tried this route I ended up holding for 10 to 15 minutes and then just giving up.

Finally I figured I'd go into a CellC store (the one in the eikestad mall in Stellenbosch) and talk to one of their employees. I explained my problem and she said: "Phone 141 and try again". After I assured her that this was the very 1st thing I tried (and I did try several times), she suggested I do a sim swap (requiring alot of admin on my side in order to obtain a valid proof of residence). I told her that this was not acceptable for me, and enquired as to the reason that I could not switch to a different tarrif plan via the automated menu's. She said that she didn't know what the reason was and that she could not offer me any further assistance.

So I'd like to take this opportunity to say "**** you", to CellC; their broken automated menu systems, their non-existent phone operators and their useless support staff.

I feel your pain, i ported from MTN to cell-c straight 100 to take advantage of the cheaper call rates but cheaper isn't always better.

They didn't port me as I wanted but allocated me a new number, I had to run around to get the port done, then I didn't realise they migrated me to a prepaid contract instead of a normal billed contract. I am on the road most of the time & I absolutely can't run out of airtime. This pissed the hell out of me when I tried making call & found out I was out of airtime,.

084140 is totally useless those guys can't help u with anything they suggested i go to a store, the store can't help me I must wait 30 days before they can change my contract. I am cancelling my Cell C contract.

I know MTN is not the greatest or the cheapest but for the last 14 years I was with them I had excellent service from the corporate division. Even if they couldn't help me straight away they kept me updated of their progress.

Even hellopeter is useless when it comes to Cell-C, I logged a complaint against them it's now 3 days later I am still waiting for them to assist me. They can take their straight up contract & shove it straight up you know where

Dial *147# and select tariff change. Sometimes it can charge you R5 to change
Also had the same problem when changing through dialing 141 but as soon as I did the *147# the plan was changed.

Like everything else at CellC, this doesn't work either...

Was your sim a contract sim before being prepaid?... The guys on twitter are helpful try them @CellC

I can't change my tariff on Control Chat. *147# gives "Error at WASP. E150."
