CellC - iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program

So I went to pickup my replacement iPhone 5 tonight. Comes in a different box so I suspect its just a replacement from Apple or a refurb. Still need to check the serial numbers, but i'm 99% sure it's not my original phone. Best of all the power button just works! I'll give it a proper spin tomorrow when I restore my iTunes backup.

The problem is that Apple has no presence in SA. Many people mistakenly think that iStore = Apple, you can't blame them. Very unfortunate for the SA consumer, since one of the reasons why Apple is loved is their fantastic 'no questions asked' support from Apple Stores in US, Europe, etc. where one can walk in with any Apple device and get support.

Nothing against iStore, they do give decent service. It's the SPs that are the biggest problem and their pathetic replacement/warranty policies.

Final note - I've just restored my backup to my replacement handset and all seems fine.

I've also emailed Busisiwe Vilakazi's managers and advised them on the good service she provided, when nobody else at Cell C seemed capable of any.

Thread can now be closed.

Did you establish whether it's your original phone or a refurb?

Original Serial: C33JTBKWDTWF
New Serial: DQGQ62M7DTWF

It's definitely a "new phone" - I'm not sure whether it's a refurb or old Apple stock but it comes in a small box from Apple (think iPhone box but perhaps 1/3rd of the height). It certainly looks new - no scratches, has the plastic on front / back of phone and came shipped with an older version of iOS (8.x).

EDIT: checked the box again and it has RFB on it - so it's an Apple refurb job. Looks new though and has 3 months warranty.

Yes, I've heard from a few places now that their refurbs are as good as new.

Also good that you can JB if required....
