Your quoted prices for iBurst look wrong

iBurst pricing

R599 gets you 3GB not 1GB
R469 gets you 1GB
R299 gets you 0.5GB

The speed realistically is much faster than EDGE.

CellC's R 499-00 includes the modem. If you look at modem inclusive prices you will reach the figures published...

So just as Telkom drop their 192 package, CellC introduce a 168 package, at a price that appears to be higher than Telkom's 384 package?

And if I'm not mistaken, isn't this just souped up GPRS? So that 'free' modem you're getting probably costs a lot less than the iBurst/Sentech modems anyway...

Well nothing is being mentioned about the cap.

To my understanding iBurst utilises the soft cap and I'm not sure about Sentech.

I think you can expect around 120 kbps with this service. A full test will be run soon and an article published with the results... We did test it at the interview and the results corresponded with what Gareth said. We will however do some in-depth testing as we were given a test unit

The CellC team added that they are looking at the current pricing levels in order to become more competitive in the broadband marketplace.

This is why both(other wireless providers) applauded Telkom's new pricing. No-one seems to want to take a drastic approach to cost cutting and Cell-C look to continue the trend?

So its not broadband and its not mobile. What is the point? And at R499 a month, no-one in their right mind who currently uses dialup will migrate, because dialup call charges of R499 - R60 ISP = R439. This buys you 150 callmore hours of dialup at R150 plus leaves enough for that Closer package. 150 hours = 5 hours a day. Poor show Cell C. I know the GPRS/EDGE modem is included in the price, but a dialup modem costs R100. R1200 is rediculous. I cannot understand why cell companies charge such a massive premium for data. Data is Data. 1GB international costs everybody the same. Why charge so much for it? Make the package R199 x 12 months with modem and we're on the right track.

cause its mobile. if you can buy a can of coke for R1 and sell it for R50 and sell basically as much as you can get hold of, why would you sell it at R20 ?

As much as we welcome the competition, this slow and expensive offering seems like a step backwards to me...

I echo the positive sentiment on CellC starting competition, but they service will obviously be a great deal slower than HSDPA at similar prices... it makes little sense to go with them from a cost perspective as you can get a hell of a lot better for a couple of bucks more from MTN or Vodacom and the same services from the above at similar if not less?

does anyone know if the Virgin Mobile branding will get HSDPA strat in forward gear at CellC?
