Hi,

I got the Q5 and did a sim swap, Cellc outlet at galleria Durban,

Did I get ripped off? R100 for a sim swap to micro sim?
Is this the normal price?

Sounds about right.
Was quoted the same amount to do a sim swop.
Ended up downloading a micro sim template, printing it, and cutting my own card to size.
Cost me the time it took to download, print and cut. Maybe 50c.

The cut sim works perfectly.

Thanks,

Yeah, The problem with that was,
My sim must've been like 6 or longer years old,
So the chip part was actually way too big... (like those old Telkom call card's)

its bullshyte, they wanted to charge me R180 for a nano sim , went to 8ta , and paid 99c for a nano

This was why I did not move to CellC. When I wanted to port my number to them and get a CellC nanosim they asked me for R100. I decided to move to 8ta which swapped my number and gave me a free nanosim.

R100 for a piece of plastic they sell in shops for R0.50 (prepaid SIM) is ridiculous.

I hope you're listening, CellC!

That's exactly what I thought

I never bother asking how much just the sim was I just wanted to get it over and done, because I know these franchise store's charge "admin fee" but when he said its 100 buck's I was like :wtf: wtf it's just a sim...

On cellc website they say we can call 140 and give them the sim number and they can do it over the phone, normal sims are like R1/5/10 depending where you buy from, but you cannot just buy a micro sim and it is smaller than the normal size sim it should cost less...

I walked into Makro. They had a bin full of Cell C starter packs. I found that there were also the Micro and Nano starter sim packs amongst the regular sim starter packs.
I came home and did a sim swap over the phone.
The best part was that I only paid R0.10 for the micro sim.

So basically the R100 was the admin fee, just as I suspected!

It's my fault tho, I should have done my homework first,
But as I said just wanted to get it over and done with, I just hope others see this thread before getting a sim swap to micro/nano sim before going to the stores..

Did the same. Have done about 5 or 6 of them with the same template. No issues with any of them.

Why is SA so backward? Even in Angola all the sims can vw converted to micro by just snapping it out

I wonder if their is a "standard", I was charged R250 for a Sim swop from Virgin mobile to CellC for iPhone 5 contract... Then sold the iPhone and got a S4... Needed a MicroSim... Wanted to charge me another R250 for the swop? Wasnt gonna pay again and they wanted all my details again... Proof of residence...ID...Payslip...etc

Soooooo I have a modded NanoSim that sort of fits in my S4 :)

Brother had the same issue... Went to another branch and got the Sim swop for free.... no set standard?????

Cell C Gateway quoted me R150 for a sim swap to microsim, on a new data card !!!!

Told them to FU and did it at home with a sim cutter

I'd never pay 100 bucks for a micro sim!

Just the other day I cut another one for my wife.

What a rip-off but if you insist doing a sim swop take advantage of RedBull promotion if it's still on R99(sim card is a micro) includes 200 meg x 12 months once-off.

Cell C better catch a wake-up and fast their competitors are charging R1 mtn, 8ta R1, Vodacom R20(last time i checked), brand plus to Telkom Mobile SIM-Soneke available at shoprite are micro-sim out of the box saves me time to inconvenience myself going to the SP shop trying to locate a micro sim card.

Just cut your old sim with a pair of scissors. The gold "chip" you see is only the contact pads of the chip, you can cut into them if you have to. The actual chip sits underneath in the center of the gold pads and is roughly 2x2mm in size. Buy some 10c starter packs to practice your cutting, if you have to.

Just to confirm RBM 200MBx12 R99 promotion starter pack comes with micro SIM

rip off, I just downloaded a micro sim template and cut it, easy.

i'm not sure there is a consistent policy.

i once paid R10 for a sim swap for a micro sim.

then a couple of weeks ago i paid about R45

so, i am upgrading my contract on sunday, and i will need to get a micro sim.
If they want to charge me R100, can i just buy a 99c sim and call for a free sim swap?
