Hi everyone,

So I'm in need of some advice please.
Currently I'm with CellC. Happy overall with their pricing (Discovery add on) & customer service, BUT!
Their network coverage and quality in Cape Town (CBD and outlying areas) is horrible.
Calls drop, no data coverage and so it goes on...

I'm considering moving to Telkom Mobile, but wanted to find out if anyone in Cape Town has had any experience with these two networks, and what your outcomes were?

Voda & MTN are off the table as I don't feel they provide value for the cost associated.

You'll receive brilliant coverage from Telkom Mobile in Cape Town.

I move around a lot in Cape Town and surrounding areas, and the coverage is just getting better and better. When there is no TM coverage, you will automatically roam on MTN's network. But nowadays I rarely roam on MTN's network for more than a minute.

Go for it & start saving a ton of money. ;)

Thanks kingrob!

I am in the same boat, So thanks for the advice. Will be moving as soon as contract ends.

The coolest thing is when you're a contract subscriber and you get 10GB wifi data a month free to use.

Telkom has wifi hotspots in all major shoppping malls, pubs, airports, etc.

No other service provider offers it in South Africa, which I see as a HUGE bonus.

Enjoy! :)

Interesting.

Just showing you the 10GB wifi data as well. ;)

I'm keen to move to Telkom Mobile as well. Anybody using them in Durbs? Currently with Cell C and coverage is no good.

To report your network issues, please PM your details. We will investigate. *DM*

If you plan to stay in Cape Town then Cell C is solid too. If you plan to travel (especially to Gauteng) then avoid Cell C.

I'm in GP and get an excellent Cell C coverage. From PTA to Jhb, the quality is decent enough.

I was there on the weekend. Travelled up from Centurion to Bela Bela, had no signal there (had to manually select a Vodacom tower), on my way back at Lanseria also had no signal. Also very poor signal in Brooklyn. When I'm in Cape Town it doesn't matter where I am, the signal always seems to be fine (data speeds not excellent, but okay).

Oh. Thanks for mentioning the areas. I've been taking Cell C for a test drive for a year now (moved from MTN) and am generally happy with their signal. I mostly lose signal in underground car parks, sometimes in cinemas or shopping malls.

Yea, sure!!! Lets see...IIRC, I waited ~3 months before a technician came to evaluate the problem. He confirmed a tower problem, and said he would get back to me. About 6 months later, I was told that the problem could not be fixed. Since then I've used dual sim phones and another ISP for data...

All my colleagues on CellC have the same problem.
