CellC slashed weekend rates

You'll probably find a good percentage of the Cell C user base is on Prepaid and have less than R15 credit

Tough to compete on an uneven playing field with the big boys MTN and Vodacom.
Never the less, when the word gets out about MNP the big boys are going to squeal like little pigs as their troughs shrink.
Little lock-ins being bandied about these days prior to MNP, Credit cards, 'free email to the not so tech savvy, not a peep out of MTN and Vodacom that MNP (is dare i say) imminent, shame :D

When my contract expires, I will be moving to them and taking my number with.

come MNP alot of school + university kids are gonna move over to virgin for the cheaper data rates they can use with mxit :P

How so? I pay 2c per message or am i missing something?

That rate of ~2c per message is what you would pay if your provider charges you R2/MB. At virgins 50c/MB it works out to 4x less, or ~0.5c per message.

if Cell C are able to charge so much less, what are their profit margins? How much really does a cell phone call really cost excluding profit? Most of the costs we pay are for interconnection charges between networks?

Its a good offer just wondering why the R15 pre -requisit by adding that they marginalising the poo.

Seems like poor okes in this country cant catch a break

That is what you pay MXiT.

On top of that are the data charges to the really big boys.

The cost of a MXiT message is 2c + hidden costs.:D

This is trivial as long as you send short messages only.

But once you start sending images/other files, if becomes a major cost factor.

Now if Virgin could offer 50c/min flat rate all hours, wouldn't that be something interesting to see come 11/10 ;)

MNP is going to do nothing for competition

Think about it.... Some will leave Vodacom and got to virgin. Some will leave Virgin and move to MTN.etc etc etc .......

You win a few you loose a few. This is just another small thing that is making everyone so happy that waiting for miracles to happen....

Sorry Guys... not going to happen.
