Cellphone banking kidnapping

I don't have FB or Internet Banking on my phone.
I'm not on anything like Istantgran, TikTok, X, etc.
I keep it simple....

Time to switch to dumb phones for when out and about and forward calls to your second number. Leave smartphone at home.

In that case (assuming you're wealthy enough & have a bank card) they'll just kidnap you, persuade you to kindly provide your pin, then accommodate you for how ever many 24-hour periods it takes to clear out your account.

Damn, let me get Cell phone banking quickly so I don't get kidnapped....

I honestly don’t think it’s worth giving it much thought. It’s just money at the end of the day. Your life is more important.

No, it's what you do every day, every month, every year for the majority of your life: work. And you work to earn money. So money is more than just money, it represents a large percentage of your life.

Nope, I don't see it that way. It's just money - can always just get it again. Your life however... single use only.

If you're with FNB I have bad news for you. If you have a card and PIN (or, if you have been kidnapped and they now have your card and PIN) you (they) can install the app on your phone.

So you from max loss = your daily limit to max loss = whatever's in your flexibond.

Banks don't care, their response is limited to it not being _their_ fault.

To be fair the main problem with insuring this kind of loss is bound to be the fraud issue.

i.e. getting "kidnapped" and having your account "raided" by a family member who then absconds back over the Lesotho border.

I don't blame the banks for washing their hands of this stuff. Any insurer who does take it on is going to have to get a bit dirty.

What about him, Just because you are old doesn't mean you get special treatment. It is your responsibility as an individual to look after yourself and your money. The bank isnt going to feel anything just because you decided to give your card and pin to a stranger.

Well, you've supported my argument that the banks will be of no help.

Yes, I understand that.

However, (from personal experience) someone hacks your FNB account and transfers money to a Nedbank account. FNB does not pursue this. The Nedbank account is FICA'ed and everything, right? NOBODY CARES. FNB determines they were not at fault for your account being hacked, jammer om van jou kak te hoor, *click* *buzzzzz*.

I want a solution where my two-factor authentication is not an app on my phone and AN SMS SENT TO THE SAME BLOODY PHONE! FNB? Nah sorry hey that's how it works. Be happy dude.

It's not about insurance, it's about liablilty. If you are handing your customers the kind of liability that can't be insured you should be bleeding, not skimming a fat profit.

If you've saved well for a long time and that money is stolen, you can't "just get it again".
Loss of money can end the wellbeing of your family as effectively as if you get killed.

Depends on your outlook and attitude.
I know of a guy who's fist wife took him for everything... he lost it all... at over 50. By 70 he was rolling in it again. Fortune 500 company in the US, mine in Aus, big private game farm in SA.

That's not simply outlook and attitude at all. It's not ordinary either. That does happen to people, but to most, not so much.
