Cellphone banking will be next step forward

i've been using cellphone banking for years now with absa and have never been disappointed or felt the need to go to a branch

there are so many "ways" to make life easier, i really dont know why people dont use internet / cellphone banking.

yeah pity the bright sparks at absa dont know how to link discovery credit card to internet banking yet: getting pissed at seeing error code 61 all the time

i've been paying my discovery card with absa banking since 1st payment, no problems.

according to discovery.co.za (worked for me):

Log onto www.absadirect.co.za
Click on "Payments" on the top menu.
Click on "Add New".
Mark the circle next to "Link ABSA listed beneficary (Bill payment)"
Type "DIS" in the "Enter beneficiary institution" field and click "Next"
Mark the circle next to "Discovery Credit Card"
Enter your 16 digit DiscoveryCard account number: Your account number can be found on the Balances Enquiry Screen on the Discovery site
Click on "Confirm"
Click on "Add New" to finish the process

PS: you need money to be able to pay it, isnt error code 61 "insufficient funds?" hehe

Aint it quite expensive to do banking via cellphone?

what is expensive? sms? get a sms bundle.
transaction? same as internet banking, compare to going to a bank? its nothing boet.

Clear SMS is insecure, USSD1/2 is Clear text .. anyone at the Mobile operators can read the SMS and USSD logs, and spoofing a MSISDN is not hard if you have the knowledge and access to equipment.

The internet sites have certificates for a reason... and Mobiles have NOTHING. One of the ways for it to be secured is to use the WIB browser. (most of Vodacom SIMS have WIB) I wont use mobile banking until I know the security is beefed up.

i do agree in a way, however i have been using it for about 4 years now and never had a problem. i do agree its not the most secure thing around, but neither is driving from anywhere to anywhere in jhb, at least if someone use their high tech equipment to steal my account and pin code, i will still be alive, if they kill be outside a bank, or driving around with money, i wont be around fight with absa about it, i prefer life to "having the most secure way of paying me R50 to my friend"

another thing, a while back some oke in western cape stole a lot of money from some absa customers, he didnt "bypass the security" of the banks, he bypassed the users's computers security. try putting spyware on my cellphone, and i will buy you a case of your fav. beer.

Dont Joke like that... The threat is not from outside... inside the networks is 'CLEAR TEXT'. how many people have had their ADSL account stolen by Telkom Employees ? its not as isolated as you think.

As for Bluetooth - Hacked, a rogue Java applet on your handset might be the fly in the ointment. The more popular something gets, the more it becomes prone to attacks.
