Cellphone wars to cause collateral damage

More deteriorated than now?
It is high time this pathetic piece of rubbish gvt start implementing fines against MTN and Vodacom and if that continues, start taking away licenses.
The Mafia want to play hard ball? Show them who is boss.

How would we know the difference? It's not like we're receiving stellar service with no dropped calls right now anyway...

Hey, no problem - I'll just number port to whoever's service deteriorates the least.

Hollow threats from the cellphone companies.

The irony is that before 1998 the call rate was about 20c. Soon after Jay Naidoo, then communications minister, announced that new player Cell C would be entering the market the interconnect rate moved to R1.23 between 1998 and 2001, making South Africa’s rate the most expensive in Africa.

If this is indeed true then I wish Cell C and Telkom mobile all the best in dismantling the cartel via a price-war. It is disturbing and disgusting the manner these two providers (MTN+Vodacom) colluded to maintain their market monopoly.:sick:

the article misses the boat and cases "against the regulator" go to court frequently in SA, remember the VANs selfprovisioning issue; what is an exception is the amount of out of court jabbing that this case has and the paucity of the suit MTN is running on.

The significance of this matter is the egregious attempt by MTN to suppress a regulatory decision which supposes benefits to the consumer. Albeit that in reality bona fide 'technical' arguments are presented to the high court's for consideration, at the end of the day the consumer only knows the superficial stuff in these cases, in particular this one Cell C have been pretty vocal by informing the consumer about the RIC's that the cartel are opposing...Therefore, this matter is riding-high on the wave of consumer's emotions..

Steven Ambrose, the chief executive of consultancy Strategy Worx, agreed, saying it marks a new “chapter” in the relationship between the networks and the regulator, and indirectly with the government, where previously issues were resolved through COLLUSION.

There we go, fixed.

Wish ICASA would actually do something and take their licenses away for a week or 2

Stupid post of the day goes to you destructive person.
Lol @ your sig, what are you? The forum mafia?

Don't assume CellC is your friend, they aren't

14 months ago CellC was lobbying on the other foot* ...

*the CTR regulations saw cuts on MTR with a reduction in asymmetry, CellC fought against the cut coming in

Let them deteriorate their services and we will see how far that will get them.
