Cellphones will rule the Internet

nah, doubt it. Computers will always have their place. In fact, with the push to move content online computers will move to the heart of home entertainment systems and Web pages and displays will become bigger and take up the role that television currently occupies. Cellphones will remain mobile, lower bandwidth delivery systems. Cellphones were designed for communication not content delivery. They will stay that way.

I just find most predictions, even about the imminent future (10 years) are simply way off. I watched a bit of Johnny Mnemonic circa 1995 and Keanu Reeves had to transport 320GB of data in his brain - this was 2020 supposedly. Back in 1995 - 500MB drives were the norm and DVDs were still being developed while Nvidia was demoing their first 3D graphics accellerators.

A bit OT, but that was a cool movie :p Sort of like Keanu's initiation to be Neo :p

I agree with you as well, go figure ;)

When did you see it? It was actually a bit of a dud! I saw it today and the acting was bad, some scenes made no sense - the fight scenes were terrible and looked cheap and the tech was terribly outdated. :)

Of course the last time I saw the movie, back in 95 I loved it.
However, this time I also managed to recognise Takeshi Kitano
who is a way better actor and was already at that stage more
famous than Keano Reeves. :)

One reviewer commented about Johnny Mnemonic and said that the
plug behind Reeve's ear was the only good thing in the film.

i hate viewing the net on cellphones. Unless screens get bigger without bulking up cellphones more, I don't see it happening.

As far as I'm concerned, most ppl's first experience of "The Net" is on their cellphones now already. Mxit, Facebook, Google, etc. Just my opinion.

I use my cellphone online constantly, my prefered way of accessing FB, seeing that the new internet inteface sucks ass. also can't imagine only replying to mails when I get to my computer/laptop (the world will end!..or so it seems). Also run my msn 24/7 from either my work e90 or personal e50..gosh I'm such a nerd know that I think about it.

Considering the amount of time between 2008 and 2020 this statement is totally pointless. It's one of those vague in-the-box stats that the media grabs hold of.

The question really is whether the cellphone will even exist in 2020. Would you call an integrated device which you use for any mobile data acquisition a cell phone?

I agree entirely. Biometric systems imho are the way of the future, rather than using cellphones to communicate and/or access the web. The only question for me is whether we'll reach this level by 2020 or later.
