Cellular base station rental

But then what’s the point if the main headache of tower ownership is maintenance of the radio and ancillary equipment and not the immovable assets?
It's all about demarcation, I can't imagine that you would want to handover the actual radio equipment to a civil company, it's not their game. Then you have to think of equipment upgrades, multi-technology kit, it's not their forte.

Power, Security and Leasing is the headache they want off their shoulders.

Does that one company own all the towers in South Africa?
If so why do MTN and Vodacom still endlessly moan about the costs to maintain towers - theft and loadshedding mitigation as if they are the ones doing the tower maintenance?
Towers are owned by multiple companies. The power issue is a lot more complicated than simply just supplying power, network equipment works on mostly 48V DC so only recently have tower companies started taking on the responsibility of Power as a Service and supplying the DC power and backup.

The amount of power required on a busy site has also tripled due to 4G & 5G data demand. RAN equipment will always belong to the mobile network operator, as that equipment needs to be owned and controlled by the ICASA license holder at all times.

Say what, this company only owns the towers and nothing else?
I thought the point of selling the towers is for the MNO’s to focus just on the core business and not running around maintaining towers

The point in selling a tower is to reduce the opex and capex costs for the tower only.

Teleco do not do well in leasing up their towers. So let’s say it cost 35k to maintain the tower. If you go to an independent towerco. They may charge 25k per month. Then they get other tenants on site like MTN or Telkom. Usually the pricing in renting is cheaper than owning the tower because of lease up.

hi guys, I'm looking at trying to place a tower on property - can you recommend companies I can approach as i understand that the mobile operators no longer own the towers
