Cellular privacy concerns

bastards

bastards i hope thier advertising strangles them to death. im so sick of advertising in my personal space. there is tv, radio, newpapers and billboards for advertising, public space. not my private space, my mail box, my cell phone, my applications. something has to be done

Consumer Choice

The obvious solution is for service operators to allow consumers either to opt-in or to opt-out of targeted marking.

The ideal goal would be to allow consumers to activate / de-activate this choice on-the-fly / as-and-when-needed. It's the only real way I can forsee the advertisers growing the mobile ad business without raising the 'creepiness factor'.

Either that or bundle data packages at discounted / free rates to allow the mobile ads to be sent to your phone. I wouldn't be interested but I'm sure a lot of youths / potential market wouldn't mind getting ads in excahnge for extra talk / text-message time.

I'm surprised this logic hasn't dawned on the industry yet. It's so obvious.

Uhhmm...if you believe this media garbage...

I would like to point you to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act 108 of 1996, the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000, the Electoral Act 73 of 1998 and the Electronic Communication and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 to name but a few...

Private info such as location cannot be shared without your explicit consent (in triplicate, stamped by the officer on duty with your birth certificate in hand and three ID photo's...:p...)...

Too much protection - like a spoiled kid...but hey when I look around me, I sometimes think that we should start adding padded cells and not new BMW's to the annual budget of this country...
