centipede

Old wives tales

Those things have no reason to be in your ear.plus the outer ear will block entry to the inner ear, I believe.

Damn charous!

Those big ones can do some damage if it bites you. I know every indian in Durban is afraid of those centipedes...lol. Not good if it gets into your ear while sleeping at night or if you wake up and find it on your pillow.

The story is... those who believe that have already have one enter the inner ear, work it's way through the brain and exit the other side, so you could say he's speaking from experience :p

I got zapped by one of these this evening, around 2 hours ago.

I think it came back from Cape Town with me. I had a shower, put on a fresh pair of pj's and t-shirt out of my luggage and sat at my PC. After around 20 minutes I felt something crawling on my neck and as reached to feel what it was this mofo zapped me on my index finger. It hurt. A lot. I took two anti-histamines just in case and kept an eye out for any symptoms. Apart from a finger that feels like I burned it on a hot plate several hours ago I did not have any symptoms.

Edit: No I didn't kill it. Scooped it up in a cup and tossed it over the wall into an empty plot of bush.

A few days into moving to Grahamstown, I was getting ready for bed, and stepped into the bedroom. Felt something spikey land on my neck. Tried to brush it off, and then felt it kind of wrap closer up to my neck. Freaked out and threw it off me and it landed under the bed. Looked a lot like this guy above, and seems it was chilling between the top of the door and the frame when I opened. Gave me the heeby jeebies for a while...

I would die. From heart attack or a stroke. Just by seeing it.

I already have a mortal fear of these things and to see it wrapped around my finger with all those legs and fangs dug into me, I just can't explain what that did for my heart rate and blood pressure!

For that split second though that I wasn't looking and just felt terrible pain I was thinking snake.

One of my guys got stung by the same bugger. Local pain and swelling on his shoulder. Gave him pain killers and anti histamines. All symptoms gone in 3 days.
