Greetings all,

Are there any VDSL users in Centurion here? Could you please post your land line extension (012-6XX) and speed.

To anyone in Eldoraigne or surrounds, Telkom is planning to launch FTTH and some of us are under the 100Mbs trial until the end of November, so if you're involved in the trial please PM me.

Thanks

telkom has been digging trenches for fiber in Lyttelton.

664 - 10mbps, MSAN.

Active MSANs in Centurion

Rooihuiskraal: 5 outdoor MSANs cut-over, 1 in-door MSAN in the exchange.
Lyttelton: 8 outdoor MSANs cut-over, 1 in-door MSAN
Swartkop: 1 outdoor, 1 in-door
Hennopspark, Eldoraigne, Highveld each have one in-door MSAN.

Total of about 22000 ports, about 6800 ports used. Most of the in-door MSANs seem to have high port density, while the remotes all have more than 200 but fewer than 600 ports each.

As far as I know, the current FTTH strategy is from in-door MSAN at the exchange only, outdoor MSANs will be used only for VDSL for now.

At one stage a few weeks after my line was migrated, the ADSL checker (http://www2.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/) was showing me VDSL availability on my line, but now it is giving errors (which I have reported, to no avail).

Do other users who know they are migrated to an MSAN have better success with the ADSL checker?

I have migrated to 20Meg and shows correctly on checker.

Oh cool.

*checks bank balance*

Oh, not so cool.

This is something people with average salaries will never see in their homes in SA.

I live in Highveld and Telkom's ADSL checker says that 10mb is the maximum available. How do I get connected to the MSAN that you mentioned is in Highveld to get access to VDSL speeds?

I'm in Die Hoewes (012 663 89xx) and the ADSL checker has been giving the same error for the last three months. If I change the last digit of the telephone number it shows 20 mbps for some and 10 mbps for others. Broadbandstats shows that all those numbers are on the same exchange.

I've tried to get Afrihost to upgrade my line twice and received two different excuses after a long delay. I also asked TelkomZA for help about 8 months ago, at which time he said the exchange doesn't support 10 mbps. I suppose I'm pretty much out of options at this stage.

Guess I'm lucky to have an MSAN 3 metres from my house in Lyttelton :)

Although I can only afford 4Mbps :erm:

MSAN's in Irene

We have MSAN's (probably about 5) in Irene that has been here for the best part of probably a year and a half. As far as I can tell they have not been 'cut over', or they are not connected to electricity. Does anyone know what the status of these are? I am in the process of getting ADSL and I am informed I can only get a 2mbps line.
