Are you still based in Century City by any chance? If so how did you manage to go with this route? If you could PM me (assuming you can't discuss here) it would be much appreciated :)
 
Just for the record, if you compare the services, apples to apples now, CCC is not overboard with their prices. NeoBroadband Fiber looks good until you read the fine print with the soft caps and contention ratio and it's a best effort service... Regardless it's still ridiculous.

Fiber is very costly at this stage every ware from what I see. The problem with Century City is you don't have a choice. It's ether going through that horrible exchange or it's CCC. The rest of the world has options.

If you go for a fishbone from VOX or that new thing from RSA web, and you get ADSL lines bonded it will be cheaper than the fiber line at the same speed. Allot cheaper. You will get nailed on bandwidth costs though, but this you can negotiate. Just remember that you can't negotiate without bringing something to the table...

The nice thing about the bonded solution is that you can lose a line or three and still work. In fact, you won't even notice if a line drops unless you are specifically looking for it. I had a line down for over month without noticing. That is testament to how bad it is, but it's allot better than just having one line.

As for anything else - I'm just an "IT guy", I can't change Century City's policies.

Understood, I just thought you might have known a way to go the wireless route in CC. We've had multiple ADSL lines which worked okay until the past few weeks where we've gotten less than 1mbps through them during some times of the day. Guess we're just screwed for now.

I'm happy with Neotel's TOS and prices and the performance we have gotten from it in our JHB office. CCC can't offer me anything comparable.
I don't mind CCC overcharging, I just won't use their service. I just have a problem with the developer not allowing stuff like wireless in the suburb. That's just greedy.

I have now been bumped up to 3Mbps @ R699 (uncapped).

Downloads are horrendously slow 7kbps-40kbps. After several "tickets" opened at Amobia they have failed to resolve the issue.
 
Just spent 30 minutes (2 calls) on the phone with Amobia. They can't understand why my downloads are so slow. Sheesh.
 
Amobia called back.

They tested:
Express Files
NewsLeecher
BitTorrent
SABnzbd

They also get low speeds. Nothing they can do. WTF?!?

I need a new ISP, but I cannot find another. Anyone?
 
I contacted iConnect and they confirmed there is only one ISP (residential) available at the moment. :(

The promised to follow up with Amobia about my problem.

So has this got any better? I don't want to move to a place where you can't get Telkom ADSL and still pay more.
