Hi

I have a shaped, uncapped 4mb account with Vox. I don't download often but when I do I want to download at a good speed.

So when I download from youtube.com or gametrailers.com for example I normally get around 400kb/s. However if i download from rapidshare or other hosting servers i usually only get around 80-100kb/s. So I think my ISP is throttling my download speeds from these servers.

Is there a way to get around this by using a VPN or something? Any advice or a point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

nope bud, free rapidshare etc, they slow it down, when you download you select slow download as it is free.

i noticed useshare and freakshare to give best like 200kbs, other is slower.

i had few times rapidshare going at 200kbs though, just a few times though.

even with unshaped at work, it max 250kbs i haveseen on any free fileshare.

I'm sorry I should have stipulated that I have premium accounts for the servers I am downloading from, but still download performance is extremely poor. Is the only way to get better speeds to change to an unshaped account? Or do other ISP's not shape these servers as much?

Thanks for the help.

hmmm yes then unshaped will make the diffrence, i don't have payed account so will not know how it performs, but with payed account you can run more then 1 at time, and shaping apply per thread so run 4 you can max your line.
