Hi guys / gals,

I currently have an ADSL / Data bundle with an ISP (not Telkom) and want to change to an Afrihost ADSL / Data bundle.
What is the best and most simplistic way of doing it?

Do I have to cancel my current bundle and wait until the DSL line has been cancelled before I can apply with Afrihost, or can I apply with Afrihost and they will do the switch-over or alternatively have me switched on / up and running the day after my current ISP is cancelled?

OR, Is it better to change my DSL line to a Telkom package and only have the data through Afrihost? (It seems a lot more affordable to go for a bundle option rather than line with Telkom and data somewhere else) :wtf:

Much appreciated ;)

I was in the same situation.

I canceled my other ISP first and a few days before the notice period term was finished, I applied for the ADSL bundle at Afrihost.

They will then deal with Telkom to take over the management of your ADSL line. IIRC, the Afrihost data portion was effective just about immediate, so I was never without any internet connectivity.

Then things get a little bit more tricky, especially on the billing side.
It takes about two weeks before Afrihost now manages the ADSL line and from the point that happens, they will bill you pro rata for the month. However, at the same time, Telkom will still bill you the full ADSL access fee. But don't fret; they do refund you the following month.

All and all, its really a painless exersize (as long as nothing goes wrong I suppose), except that you could pay almost double for one month, but only get the "double payment" back the following month.

I'm sure AfriMan or Afri* will be able to answer you better.

Thanks Mr.Jax :)

I was worried that I might be without internet at home for a couple of weeks. Already looked at setting up a wifi hotspot with HSDPA / 3G as an interim solution. Your way sounds a lot cheaper and a lot less complicated. I'm going to go the same route then and apply with Afrihost a couple of days before the notice period expires.

Cheers!

Hi there

Glad to hear you're thinking of coming over to us.

You'll need to first find out when your data with your old ISP will expire. Once that is done, you can sign up for data with us the day before that (our activation is instant).

For the line, you'll need to move it to Telkom first, and then when its with them, we can sign it up. Once you've signed up the line with us, you can create a bundle in clientzone and already get some savings in some cases while the line is still moving over :)
