Sometimes the "change default setting" in Word doesn't work.
Here is how to do it manually:

> Go to c:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Tempelates\
> Right-click on the file [Normal.dotm] and click on [Open]
> Change setting, save and close.

Here are the things I usually change:
> Page size = A4.
> Language = English (UK).
> Spacing (under Layout, Paragraph) = 0pt before and after, Single line spacing at 1.00. (This will make the spacing close to each other even when pressing Enter, like it was before Office 2007).
> You can also change the default Font and Font-size.
