Changing file type in Vista

How does one change the file type in vista?

Do you mean the extension, or the default program a file opens with?

If the former, you'll need to set explorer to display extensions: Tap your alt key and go Tools > Folder Options > View and deselect "Hide extensions for know filetypes) and then you can see and edit the extension. (Slow double click in Vista only selects the filename, unlike XP where the full name + extension was selected)
