I am in the process of changing my hard drive. My small one has Windows and the basic progs on it, with a large drive holding games and pics music etc. I am changing the small drive to a new 1, and want to move everything across, ie XP, registry etc, so that I dont have to reinstall everything, just make an image of my existing HD and copy it to a new 1.

How do I do this? I have Norton Ghost 14.0, is that all I need or something else?

Ghost should be able to do this for you. Or, if you have Seagate drives, hunt for an oldish app called "DiscWizard" (I think it was called DiscWizard 2003). I've used it a few times to transfer my OS to a new disk and larger partition with no problems

I would recommend Acronis True Image - I think version 11 is the latest - great piece of software for this kind of thing - never let me down yet...

Will image your whole partition and allow you to dump the image onto a new HDD, take out the old HDD, connect up the new HDD, boot and carry on as normal...

+1 for acronis

very reliable

on a side note, when cloning a partition to a new disc, certain applications installed use a system id that is linked to the hard drive id/serial for registration purposes and they will ask you for a serial number/activation code again when you launch it from the clone installation.
