changing new contract to a better one?

Hey guys is it possible to change a recently aquired contract up to a better one?

For example if i got me a 1gig contract one month ago, can i up it to a 3gig and pay the amout of the 3gig contract further on?

You should be able to upgrade but not at the promo rates
