There could already be a thread about this, and I did search but came up with nothing.

Currently I have 3 PCs all connected via my ADSL router, the router is in bridge mode and each PC dials up with international and local connections separately, or sometimes through my proxy :)

But now I'd like to use IP Cop, through a virtual machine if possible, else I need to find an old PC as I have none.

How would I set it up? I need two NICs in the PC running IPCop correct? And then is how I currently have things connected fine, or do I need to have just my IPCop connected to the router on red interface, and then green interface on the other NIC goes to a seperate switch where the other PCs are connected..? Or can it all go through the router?

And how do I configure IPCop to dial an ADSL account or two? I've looked through its settings but didn't see anything that looked promising.

Thanks, already saw that thread ;)

I need help with the basic stuff, then will tackle the splitting.

You dont need to have two NIC's in the IPCop machine. I just have one NIC in mine, and connect it to a switch. My PC's in close proximity then connect to the switch as well. I also have an wifi access point connected to the switch, which provides wireless connectivity to my laptop/wife's PC.

DHCP is handled by IPCop itself.

I have IPCop configured to connect to Cybersmart using a Connexant-based PCI card.....works like a charm... It has "Profiles" capabilities so you can store up to five ISP's per IPCop box.

As for running it through a Virtual Machine ......I've never tried that before.

Best is to pick up an old P1 and make use of that for IPCop.

I ran ipcop on Microsoft virtual pc and on a old p1. Works like a dream. I even use it to split local and international.

I'm using Smoothwall, but won't recommend using a virtual PC as it inherits the weaknesses of the host OS.

Best is to run it on a dedicated PC - this can be a P1 or P2. (My Smoothie's running on a 266MHz P2).

Running IPCOP here at work and I must say it works WONDERS,
Especially caching of Windows updates and .exe files.

I too love IPCop, but have gained a lot of respect for pfSense over the last few months... I admin several pfSense boxes on the Jawug network...

It is especially nice as it allows multiple wan interfaces which is useful when it comes to Lan / Jawug / Adsl etc

I have made a tutorial with all the files needed to set it up. This includes the iso, program to copy the files and putty. I just dont know where to put it? Give me a shout if you want it, see if we can make a plan
