Chaos at Sony store opening

What happened to South Africa's over extended consumer?

This also happened when Incredible Connection opened up at Vaal Mall. Big crowds outside although people were orderly.

Didn't know people were so eager to let go of their money/credit card

There was a huge watch sale in Randburg a couple of weeks back and when queues start to build up, people get restless and start fighting. These opening sales are very poorly organised, that and the fact that people are too bloody impatient and greedy all contributes to why incidents like these happen time and time again.

Yeah they do it Hi-Fi Corp's openings too, people camp out in their cars from the night before etc...
I love a good deal but not that much

All for what? Maybe a 10%-20% discount?

If they were giving away HD tv's then fine....

Hype. All for hype. But some people have such a hobby and choose to do these silly things. Like these guys who camped outside the theaters when
Star Wars Ep 1-3 came out, just to be the first, or these guys who camped outside the shop to buy the first iPhone,PSP,PS3,Xbox360,DOOM3,FFXII etc.

702 said there was around 1000 people there in the morning, was the specials that good?

Anyone know what exactly the specials were? I didn't hear or see any ads. I only saw the boarded up shop when I was at Eastgate a few weeks ago but no ads anywhere... Sony SA's site doesn't even mention the store opening.

So how'd these crazies find out about it and what is it that they found out that the rest of us are too slow to have heard?

I'd understand camping out for a once in a lifetime concert or for tickets to the FIFA WC final if your country is playing in it but for a STORE opening/ CD launch/ Game launch? Huh?

What if they had 42" Bravias for R5000???

They were asking for trouble by putting their advert in the Sunday Times which is distrbuted nationally...
