That's why, when you do go solar, you do it for yourself, no grid tied BS. Screw Governments, money grabbing idiots....

Battery Pack and off grid for the win. Use your EV as Battery backup for house, and, if you need grid power, it comes from you EV battery charged at public charger from the grid.

In 10 Years from now, switch from EV to Hydrogen...

Just like in SA, yes, the best option for people is the option that removes government as much as possible. Go off-grid water and electricity and stop paying the government what they want you to pay them. In SA it makes no sense to go hybrid/grid tied, it is just a big "tax me more" sign to governments.

Its ok, the DA will invent an Electric ERF rating value and just add that to your bill anyway.

If I am off-grid for water and elec I will not be paying what they want me to pay. I will decide what they deserve and if they don`t like it they get nothing. They work for me, I don`t work for them.

They can`t even evict squatters do you really think they will evict me for an outstanding rates? Like Soweto gets its debt written off yet I will be evicted? That will not happen.

Of course they will.. you're middle class and an easy target.. you will be out on the streets while the city enjoys the profits from your property for decades to come.

Where did you hear that? The DA takes care of the poor, I was much better off as an indigent than a middle-class tax cow. Got free stuff and if I used too much I only paid 20% of the middle-class price. I didn`t even have my electricity box wired for unlimited free electricity, but that option is also there.

I am an experienced indigent, and I know other indigents who knows how to hotwire a prepaid meter. They might throttle my indigent water connection a bit, but that is still ok, it just takes a bit longer to fill up the bath.
 
Sounds like an additional availability charge. i.e. you may choose not use grid power but provision of it comes with a cost.

I don't disagree with that principle, but there should be way to opt out if you genuinely have no use for grid.
