Chat - meet new friends / partner

I have never tried a dating site I don't really like the idea. I was thinking of starting a thread where one can share their skype nickname/email in order to get new contacts to chat with.

Whether to find new friends, partners or just chat buddies.

Then whoever is feeling for a chat to meet someone new can update this thread with something like, "Im going to be online tonight at 7pm if anybody wants to chat"

... or "I'm looking for a girl from Cape Town between ages of 25 - 30 or just friends to chat, add me im so-and-so."

What do you guys and girls think of this idea?

Because no self-respecting male, other than to refer to himself as a burger patty would call himself patty and still walk out with some male dignity.
