Neither. You need either a google or microsoft login, then you run it via their website.

The chatgpt site needs an openai login which can use any email but requests a phone number in the next step. I don't typically (and don't want to) log in to 3rd party sites with my gmail credentials.

I signed up with my Google account and provided cell number for activation.

I used to feel the same way as you about using an Oauth provider to sign up for 3rd party site but I've decided that it is more secure in some respects - the 3rd party never sees your password, your identity is managed by Google/Facebook/Microsoft etc who have better resources to do this securely than smaller entities and you can block the 3rd party site at any time. There are probably some cons as well such as if your Google account is compromised, so are all the other services that are linked to it.

I'm talking in terms of authentication only - authorising apps that require access or permissions to the Google account functionality or data would raise additional concerns.
