Chatroom users 'egged on father to kill himself live on webcam

Of course he revels in the fact that he's better in some intangible way than this poor troubled soul. Sigh.

When I chatted on IRC, occasionally people would sign in and do stupid stuff like claiming they were going to commit suicide, etc. We always encouraged them, and no-one had the stones to go through with it. They were a joke. Guess statistically it had to be for real sometime.

How do you know for sure they never went through with it?

Oh man. I sure do hope that this sorta thing doesn't catch on. It's pretty sad. I wonder how the people in that chatroom are feeling?

Sad indeed. He must have been depressed with life. I learn't he had an accident recently, and was still recovering.

A coward that takes the easy way out and leaves his problems for others to sort out.
This planet is better off without him anyway.
May he not rest in peace.
Satan can have him!

Sounds like you're revelling to me Rikus. "May he not rest in peace"? - that's a sick and cowardly expression.

More than 34 000 people in Japan kill themselves every year.
In the US, more people die from suicide than homocide.

Well Rikus, I guess you don't know any people who have tried or succeeded in committing suicide.

Maybe if you did, you'd have a rather different opinion about it. Generalising about something as serious as this is easy if you've never been affected by it.

Anyways, one does rather hope that some of the people in that chat room feel at least a smidgen of guilt for egging the guy on.

Nod, here's an interesting question- do you think suicide sites and suicide forums online should be banned (or controlled)?

As long as it does not encourage suicide, but really try to help the person to make a more informed decision. If someone really wants to commit suicide, that person is going to do it. If they go to one of these sites, they are either looking for attention, or are not sure if it is the right thing to do. Most people that commit suicide, doesn't think about the effect of it, after they're gone.

Care to give us a link to the research?
Or is it just random facts you use(again:rolleyes: ) to suit you?
Waiting.............

No bans, no control. Freedom of expression, in whatever form it might be, is the basis on which online forums and chatrooms are founded. Maybe having suicide counsellors trawl such sites would be a good idea.

Because they mostly either came back the next day to tell us what utter cocks we were, or they went off to other channels/servers. They're just a different version of the people who join a channel called "hornyguys101" with the nick "cutegirl18f". Attention is all they want.
