Cheap broadband 'from July'

Unless the cable causes some serious competition, and by serious I mean ISP's cutting current prices by something like 40-60%, not much will change. Perhaps higher caps and a norm of 512Kb or 1Mb speeds in the short term.

Was featured on etv late news last night as well. Seems like they are going all out with the PR. Let's hope it's not all talk and no action.

Surely 99.9% of people in South Africa have seen this by now? it's just that one guy who works at that garage in the Karoo who can't read and has nobody to read to him who doesn't know about this... but it is OK... I don't think he has internet access! :p
 
No doubt the DoC (and Ivy) amongst others will be quick to get their fingers dirty... :sick:

But I do have high hopes...
 
funny how the 'deluge of broadband' predictions have become more and more pessimistic as time went by .. at one stage there was speclation we'd be paying only 10% of what we're currently paying now.

yea thats also right... Well all I can say is I am waiting untill the food ison the table... I am tired of getting my hopes up... but still do have a dream of one day having real broadband.... lol
 
Let's face it. "Broadband" these days isn't much better than dial-up/isdn with "R7 call". The only advantage is it's a bit faster when you need it and it's 24/7. Costs to download large amounts of data (internationally) around the same.
 
Costs will only come down, when ISP get an open/free exchange. Why is LOCAL then so expensive????? Why is LOCAL R10 a GB? it should be changed to 0.0001c a GB for LOCAL. They are just going to keep on ripping us new ones.
 
lets face it, this cable did not come free, they want to make some money off it first before they cut costs.
