Cheap fuel saver

Mazda 2 or Suzuki Swift (we own both).

The Swift is seriously light on fuel (80% city traffic):

I do a lot of short distance city/urban driving in and around Fourways and occasionally take it out to PTA East, Vereeniging and if Klipdrift Dam close to Potch. If I did more highway driving I'd probably get even better economy.

Worth noting that although I can do 140 quite easily I find myself cruising at 110 when on the highway which is slower but also aid in fuel saving.

The only vehicles I've had that was lighter on fuel were diesels and bikes.

Celery is a good option yes. If total endgame is fuel economy it’s hard to go wrong. It is relatively bare bones though.

The GL-spec model does add a number of trim extras that are missing from the base GA model Celerio - so the OP could always go for that instead if more 'creature comforts' are required for not much more money.

Here is a link to the Suzuki SA brochure for the pre-facelift Celerio models so you can compare specifications of the GA against the GL and decide which suits your needs better.

Right so I think I am close to a decision and need input please except for the hijack/theft aspect as I am in insurance for the last 36yrs so don't need anything in that respect please.

2012 VW Polo 1.6Tdi with 88 000km on the clock. Very clean and well looked after.
Anyone have one or in the know please...................

Had a 2007 1.9TDi... loved it. Drove it until it it had about 140,000km on the clock :)

Only had two close "hi jack" calls with it. Would devo recomendo as long as I'm never a passengero.

...sorry

Diesel is on it's way out. I imagine it will get even more expensive to service and fix. I would rather go for a petrol vehicle - some or other Suzuki / Toyota / VW fuel efficient vehicle.

There is one on the vwclub forum that has presently clocked 370 000km and still running OEM turbo, clutch with no major repair being done.

I am running a jetta 4 1.9tdi, 310000 km same turbo same clutch. Fuel around 6 to 6.5 l/100km

Every time I see this thread I think it's for one of those snake oil products with magnets or some ****.
