Seems as though of my ports has gone on my ADSL router so I need to buy a gig switch (5 port). I only need the basics and was wondering what brand I should look for? Need to buy at brick n morter store like Matrix

Also - do I need set anything? Or just physical connection and it'll work?

How are you gonna link the switch-router if all the ports are 'gone'?

Any switch will do in home environment. Around R300 with "green Ethernet" option, it saves some energy.

My bad - left out the word one ;) So 1 of the 4 ports is bust and I needed all of them.

I managed to get myself a TP Link 5 port @ R320.00 which wasn't too bad. The guy said it was plug and play, popped home and literally plugged my devices to it and it into the router - and all worked. Browsed etc with no issues that night.

I got home that night and the little yellow triangle was on my PCs and no throughput :/ Reset both PCs and nothing. Then I tried unplugged in the switch and starting again - worked!

Why do you think it'll do this?
A once off issue hopefully?

If it happened, it will happen again. Not common, normally it doesn't need attention as opposed to many routers. Check specification of this switch. If it has any power saving, it must be complied with IEEE 802.3az.
