Can anyone recommend a cheap golf course in JHB for beginners? I have recently taken up golf and not looking to spend too much until I know I will enjoy it for the moneys worth :o many of their websites I have gone through don't show the green fees so I thought I would ask here before phoning around :p

Also any good mashy courses? Only one I have been to so far is Jim and Jerrys or something in Roodepoort. Only proper course I have played on so far is about 30mins drive down the N12 from the N1 but I can't remember it's name :/

Crown Mines - About R185 for weekends (affiliated). Very nice course. A bit challenging but easier then most.

That was your first mistake ;) Second one would be to continue down this road.

:) haha. I'm told this game is a disease.

Thanks for input all. I was also told that sometimes your medical aid has some sort of benefit but not too sure about that. For now though I'm just going to stick with cheap until I know if I will continue with this game or not. Already got Spalding bag and clubs (3iron to 9iron, pitchwedge, sandwedge, putter, driver) for only R600-00 at Macro :D they had some sort of promotion going on and I think these clubs were the demonstration ones or something they said along those lines but still in good nick.

jackal creek, course is pretty nice and a round is dirt cheap..

Obs is running a really good midweek special while they do up their clubhouse. Early tee off for 59 rhondt including a breakfast . Course is in excellent condition at the moment.
The medical aid benefit you mentioned is through Discovery's Vitality program - you get points for every game you play but have to have an official handicap and log your scores through NGN
[edit ... golf has got to be one of the most difficult sports to get into - don't be put off by not being able to moer the skin off that little white ball your first couple of rounds. With a bit of patience and practice you'll soon be addicted]

Some of the courses also run early morning specials..tee off before 8, etc Was advised by a friend that Observatory is pretty cheap as well

Obs is good. And good for beginners. No serious rough to speak of, and its not easy to lose a ball unless its in the water or out of bounds.
