What is the "best" cheap domain registrar that also includes privacy of the whois.

Also, can you get a .co.za domain with privacy or isn't that possible.

Why make the domain's whois private, well I don't want my information scattered everywhere on the Internet.

Thanks

I think this depends what you want the domain for. If you really want privacy find someone with a non-specific domain (ie xen.co.za) and get a subdomain (centaur.xen.co.za) off that pointed to your servers. That will work for email and hosting, but looks a lil amateurish for biz related activities.

Then again, considering the amount of paperwork required for biz reg, and how that is all online anyway it's negates your original point.

I've got a strong feeling that there are telcom's laws around the TLDs and domain registration in South Africa at least. Maybe someone with more experience in this area can shed some light here.

Also, nom.za currently doesn't have a WHOIS function, but those domains are only legit for personal use and you would have to get them hosted manually (ie contact tech support).

I was just wondering. But it looks like on localized domain names you can't have privacy. Godaddy doesn't offer it for .co.uk domains.

So back to my original question, which int domain registrar offers cheap domains, with privacy or cheap privacy. On domains, like .com, .org, .net, ect.

Thanks.

That is correct, .co.za domain names cannot really have privacy activated.

We offer the option of having the domain owners details private on international domains at no extra charge, (obviously on the domains that allow this option)

With a bit of imagination there are alvays vays und meens to maintain privacy. Try Google. First and always.

Well if you are looking for a throw away domain just grab some free domains, plenty of them support whois privacy.

Thanks for all the help... I am not going to buy a domain just yet. I'm doing some research for buying a domain in the future, for my newest work in progress website.

I don't want to have a free domain, would rather get a premium domain.

What would be better, buying a domain from an international registrar (like Godaddy) or buying it local with privacy?

Other than registering yourself which can be a pain at times, probably just get the people who host the site to register the domain. It's easier in the short term. However, since the records are private just make sure that the domain belongs to you and not the host (this can be an issue later on).

Just check with the host's support people to make sure they will be able to sort out the privacy stuff.

If you can also let us (me anyway) know how the thing goes in the thread, would be interesting to know how things turn out.
