Hey all

I need some advise on purchasing internet/data bundles.

I am am looking for the cheapest service provider.

I am not a regular user of the internet so i am looking for something that will roll over every month. I donot want to be locked into a contract and i dont what to pay any monthly fee(like monthly ADSL line rental from telkom).

Looking for prepaid option(maybe with once off connection fee and then to top up as i use).

Any advice?:)

You need to tell us a bit more about what you are looking for. How many GB per month would you use on average? What is your budget?

But based on all your restrictions above, you've pretty much excluded almost every ISP out there. You don't want to pay monthly fees, and you don't want ADSL. You're looking for a completely prepaid option. Then you're pretty much stuck with prepaid 3G/HSDPA on your phone, or on a data card if you arealdy have one.

Besides MTN/Vodacom, you could try GConnect - they offer 3G data bundles that NEVER expire. But you have to either buy a SIM card from them at R150 once off, or if you have a Vodacom Contract, you can link the data bundle to your contract sim card. Data will cost R289 per GB though - way more than ADSL.

Check here for more info - https://gconnect.wirelessg.co.za/.

If you want to save money, and have a reliable connection, then ADSL is definitely the way to go. You could get a 384K line for R151 per month (excluding voice line rental) and supplment it with prepaid bandwidth from Afrihost at R39 per GB.

Thanks Toxic

My monthly usuage should be less than 500mb per month. But there might be certain months that I will not use this up. Therefore i dont want to lose it(must carry) forward.

I was hoping that there is something out there for less than a R100

I will look at the various suggestions you made.

Thanks again

Try the Record Breaker deal from SAOL it costs R95 every month and includes 1GB of international data and line rental.

Actually this is a frikkin great deal. I would really go for this. Excellent value. In fact, this sounds like it is below cost...

UPDATE: I thought this sounded too good to be true. so went to check it out.

Prof - you've got it wrong. It excludes the ADSL line rental - it's listed under the Account Only packages.

However, you could get this package for R138. 1GB blended + 20 GB local only + 384K ADSL line rental. Still below Telkom's price of R151 for the 384K ADSL line rental, which comes with no bandwidth/data.

It is advertised on their homepage in the scrolling advertisement bar as including ADSL line rental, they can be sued pretty badly if you are right.

Hmm... didn't see it at first - thanks for pointing it out. If it's true, its a frikkin great deal. Wonder if there are any other funny terms and conditions related to this.

If I wasn't on SAOL's 384K uncapped all-in-one already, I would have went for this deal, and suplemented it with Afrihost bandwidth at R29 per GB.
