Cheapest brand new laptop I've seen I can get you for R4230. Its a Sahara 1.6Ghz P4-M 512MB 40GB Wi-Fi DVD-RW + Linux. I think its a 15.4" ... might be 14" though.
Otherwise you can get some good deals on bid or buy ... but be very cautious ... there was a huge scam recently and a lot of people lost a lot of money trying to get cheap laptops. Either tell the guy you will only give him the money if you meet him in person with the laptop, or you will only oay by credit card, cause if something goes wrong ... you can phone the bank and say it was fraud and they'll reverse it.

Thanks good advice im looking for something cheap that comes preinstalled with a linux distro or some such... I dont wish to bloody have to pay 1-2 k for windows.

Holy dude I just checked my Sahara pricelist and that model goes for R3999excluding VAT, with vat its 4216.86 and you are asking 4230, wow markup of only 14 bucks holy man you either get way better prices than I do or you are bargain bobs cousin.

No problem ... thats the best price I'm gonna be able to give you ... I don't know of anything cheaper ... as far as I know anthing cheaper will either be second hand o one of those crazy bargains on bid or by which confuses me, but just watch out for them.

Chances are he just gets better prices than u do :)

That is a very good price on a laptop and I'd much rather buy from Etai than from Bid Or Buy.
After all the problems I've heard about on BoB I wouldn't buy anything there.

If you want to do anything other than word processing and surfing the web I'd recommend u save up a bit more and buy a better spec laptop.I've had loads of returns on sahara goods so I don't buy from them, they are very cheap tho.

But do those better prices come with a warranty ... cause on bid or buy the prices can be thousands lower ... maybe they're off the back of a truck.

Specwise the laptop is good for entry level ... but I agree with Toko ... for R5200 ... you can get well known brand, although it will be a celeron ... I would recommend the Asus or Acer ... IMO I'd leave HP out, not a big fan.
